Bournemouth singer-songwriter DD Allen and his band are set to wow the audience at the Old Fire Station on March 5.

The talented ensemble will be competing in The Pogues Irish Whiskey Presents: A Shot At Discovery alongside other hopeful acts.

It’s been the most spectacular of journeys for DD Allen, which began with him leaving a promising career with F1 supercar manufacturer McLaren to follow his heart and write music.

Starting out as a solo performer under his real name Drew Allen, he immediately caught the ear of James Blunt and supported him on his mammoth Moon Landing arena tour in 2014.

Since then DD Allen has been putting the finishing touches on his debut album, which is due out later this year. On the new record, DD Allen has teamed up with an A-list team including double platinum selling producer / engineer Mike Spink (The 1975, Jake Bugg) and multi Grammy Award winner Andrew Scheps (Adele, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Hozier).

The event is backed the Irish whiskey from the famed Celtic punk band, The Pogues. The winner at the Old Fire Station will advance to the final at the O2 Academy Islington in London where they will get to showcase in front of music industry professionals.

All bands will be expected to play a 15 minute set of original material or a three song set. If they win again, they have a chance to record with The Pogues and receive numerous prizes.

DD Allen has a great chance, with live performances being described as ‘a mesmerising rock infused folk tour-de-force’.

James Blunt even commented that “There’s something exciting about the music of DD Allen. Sort of a cross between Neil Young and Jake Bugg, with a great deal of honesty thrown into his lyrics.”

DD Allen certainly has the legendary spirit and poetic rebelliousness of The Pogues, so it should be a match made in heaven.
