THE first wave of acts have now been revealed for the 2017 Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival.

From intimate theatre shows through to illuminated installations, live music and large scale outdoor spectaculars, there is something to excite all ages - and many events are free.

Launching the week-long festival will be a diverse selection of pop-up performances from midday on Saturday, October 14, across the town square and gardens.

On both nights of the opening weekend, the Hydromania show by Avanti Display will take over Bournemouth’s town hall with a unique family friendly performance.

The line-up announcement comes on the back of news that the festival has been awarded funding for the next four years under Arts Council England’s National Portfolio.

Cllr Pat Oakley, portfolio holder for tourism, said: “We’re delighted to announce the seventh Arts by the Sea Festival. The line-up is even more varied and spectacular than ever before, with many free events.

“We’re extremely proud of our festivals here in Bournemouth – it’s what sets us apart from other resorts. Arts by the Sea offers residents and visitors the chance to experience and explore performing and visual arts with a spectacular coastal backdrop.”

Dr Roxy Robinson, creative producer said: “This year also sees the introduction of the ‘Plastic Beach’ theme, whereby artists are invited to explore and highlight critical environmental issues through the creation of new work.”
