THIS year's Purbeck Valley Folk Festival has been hailed the 'most successful yet'.

Organisers are celebrating after the brilliant event came to a close on Sunday.

Bursting at the seams with headline acts and family fun, this year's event in the hillside surroundings near Corfe Castle saw performances from Badly Drawn Boy, Turin Brakes, Ben Ottewell from Gomez and Michele Stodart from The Magic Numbers.

Catherine Burke, organiser of Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, said: “It's been our most successful festival yet. Thank you so much to everyone involved in making this weekend as awesome as it's been. There are a lot of people that put a huge amount of work into making this work.

"Thank you to our family, all of the crew, stewards and helpers. To everyone who helped create such a beautiful atmosphere throughout. Not to mention the great weather and those views across the hills to Corfe Castle, it was magical. See you next year."

Other attractions over the weekend included family entertainment, storytellers, craft workshops, music workshops. song sessions, poetry, Purbeck Rising, open mic sessions and much more.

And on Saturday, the fancy dress theme of the letter E was also very popular.

On Sunday afternoon, gentlemen were asked to primp and preen their facial hair for the annual Beard Off competition.

And for this year's event, there were also categories for women and children as well as the biggest, best, fullest beard and best facial hair.

For those wanting some time out there were also a number of films on offer at the festival cinema.
