LILY Allen, James and The Jacksons have been announced for this year’s Common People festival.

The annual event, organised by Bestival founder Rob da Bank, takes place at Southampton Common on May 26 and 27.

Lily Allen will headline the Common Stage along with Manchester legends James on Saturday. Other acts lined-up on Saturday include All Saints, The Sherlocks, Jaguar Skills, The Cuban Brothers, Elvana: Elvis Fronted Nirvana and Plastic Mermaids.

Then on Sunday, get your flares on for a disco-tastic line-up that will see The Jacksons basking in the dazzling reflection of the World’s Largest Disco Ball. The New Power Generation, Sparks, Boney M, Snap!, FooR, Jungle Brothers and Hak Baker will also be performing.

Rob da Bank says: “This will be our fourth year returning to the beautiful green escape of Southampton Common and it's been quite some ride putting together the Common People line up for 2018. Headlined by none other than Lily Allen and one of my favourite indie bands of all time James, the Saturday is a typically eclectic mash up of styles.

“Our Disco Day on the Sunday also promises to be super funky with The Jacksons bringing their disco and soul classics, but my personal highlight has to be Prince’s unbeatable backing band The New Power Generation coming over from the States for a one-off weekend with us. We couldn’t get Prince but we will have all the hits.

“Add in all the local Southampton bands and DJs and a real focus on family fun and entertainment and I promise you a magical May weekend awaits.”

New for this year is the Carnival Stage which will see performances from DJ Yoda, a $hit Disco takeover with HAAi, Kiwi, Fred V & Grafix, Holy Goof and Barely Legal.

As ever, underground players and nascent rock action can be found on the Uncommon Stage hosted by The Joiners. Demob Happy, The Rising, The Collision, Deference, Pioneers and Miss Vincent will blast through Saturday’s slots. And Dream Wife, Pale Seas, Ben Goddard, Saints of Sin, Toreador, Josh Savage and Lauran Hibberd take on the Sunday crowds.

For families, there will be a Kids Garden with Inflatable Church, Wall of Death, Big Fish Little Fish, Hampshire cricket, Kids Bushcraft, BigTopMania with face painting, glitter, crazy inflatables, and have-a-go circus equipment including diablos, juggling, slackline & poi and circus performances.

Plus there will be Alpacas, the Cardboard Castle, Haven Falconry, Punch & Judy, a giant sandpit, bouncy castle, inflatable slides and a Vintage Fun Fair with swing boats, helter skelter, chair o’ planes and big wheel.

An adult weekend ticket costs £57.50 or £30 for a day ticket.
