Celebrating the unique pop harmony sound of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, this lively show starring the East Coast Boys is currently on its tenth successful annual tour of the UK.
Opening with Big Girls Don’t Cry and the classic Let’s Hang On, this pacy show rattles through the gritty Working My Way Back To You, the neat ballad Silhouettes, the stirring Big Man In Town, the masculine Walk Like A Man and the magnificently moving Rag Doll.
Featuring rich four-part vocal harmonies, tightly mesmeric choreography, and a fine four-piece live band, this is a fun feel-good show.
Highlights include the creamy a cappella pop classic Silence Is Golden, the powerful Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Any More, and the sophisticated I’ve Got You Under My Skin.
Sure, the ubiquitous C/A minor/F/G7 chord structures are repetitively simple, yet the catchy melodies, gritty lyrics, and gorgeous rich harmony vocals – with that distinctive soaring and biting falsetto lead vocal – produce unforgettable pop songs.
Frankie Valli’s later solo career is illuminated by his title song from the movie Grease, his moving autobiographical Fallen Angel, and his tribute to the great Andy Williams You’re Just Too Good To Be True.
The popular climax was the sing-along Bye Bye Baby, and the standing ovation encore included a polished medley of Stay, Let’s Hang On and of course the hooky titular Big Girls Don’t Cry.
