PAVILION Dance South West is delighted to announce its spring season from January 21, presenting an exploration of human relationships and cultural diversity through a broad selection of live performance, family shows, films, screenings, and a varied participation programme.

The performance programme begins with laugh-out-loud double-act, May-We-Go-Round? by The Hiccup Project. Two women take a journey through relationships and sisterhood in a fusion of dance and theatre with perfect comedic timing. This is contrasted by Antonia Grove/Probe’s powerful solo Now You See It, a physical theatre portrait of a woman considering her strategies for survival.

ACE dance and music are presenting TEN, a story of two brothers trying to find their place in a migrating world, with ACE’s signature style blend of African-fusion, flamenco, Kathak and contemporary dance. Aakash Odedra Company also offer a fusion of dance styles in Echoes & I Imagine. The two solos emphasise Odedra’s versatility and mastery of both Kathak and contemporary dance, bringing to life stories of traditional roots and belonging versus the experience of immigrant generations.

Dance, theatre and storytelling blend with a generous dose of humour in Joan Clevillé’s Plan B for Utopia, an exploration of friendship and the dreams we all have, and how to cope if they don’t quite come true. DeNada Dance Theatre’s TORO: Beauty and the Bull is set to question society, gender and sexuality in a darkly comic tragedy of monsters and men, while Norwegian dance theatre company Panta Rei explore vulnerability and strength in the highly physical Promise of Departure. Flamenco Edition will be closing the live performance season by presenting Manuel Liñán, one of the most celebrated contemporary flamenco dancers, in his latest production, Sinergia.

To start off our family performance Anatomical’s sell-out The Doodle Dance Show is returning to Bournemouth. This interactive show will see whole families drawing, dancing, doodling and story-telling together. Our second family performance, Penguins, is a unique and engaging show about the ever-changing meaning of family. It is based on the true story of two male penguins in Central Park Zoo, who hatched an egg and raised a chick. Finally, Flying Cow by Dutch company De Stilte explores the playground, where anything can happen when two become three.

Regular Bolshoi Ballet screenings are back with some much-loved repertoire classics and tales of doomed lovers. The programme begins with a live screening of an adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet. It continues with The Lady of the Camellias, choreographed by renowned artistic director of Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier, and Giselle, the tale of a girl who dies of a broken heart and returns from the dead as a vengeful spirit meant to punish her unfaithful lover. The season closes with a live screening of Coppélia, the beautiful stranger who poses a threat to Swanhilda and Franz’s happiness.

PDSW’s recently re-launched film programme will continue with three iconic dance films by Oscar-winning filmmakers. Dive into the lives of professional performers with dance scenes and songs in Richard Attenborough’s A Chorus Line (1985). Robert Altman’s The Company (2003), starring actress Neve Campbell, delves into the world of a ballet company, featuring many actual dancers from the renowned Joffrey Ballet in Chicago. n For details of the full programme see bournemouthecho.co.uk Closing the film season will be White Nights (1985) by Taylor Hackford, starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines in the story of a defected Russian dancer.

The participation programme this spring offers numerous performance opportunities for children and young people, including the sub-regional Origins Youth Dance Platform and the Spotlight Showcase for local dance groups and schools from Bournemouth, Poole and the wider Dorset area. PDSW is also proud to be hosting U.Dance South West, the regional U.Dance platform, in February.

We are delighted to welcome back Luca Silvestrini’s Protein to present his food-related show May Contain You at two local care centres, and to be working with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to present an Al Fresco Tea Dance on our terraces in May.

PDSW’s class programme continues to expand with a brand new weekly Parkinson’s Dance class in partnership with Forest Arts Centre in New Milton from February 2018.
