If you hated the weekend's mini cold snap, there's good news in store as things are set to turn milder.

While temperatures struggled to get above freezing over the last few days with even snow making a brief appearance on Saturday, it will feel a lot more pleasant by Wednesday with highs of 11C.

Today will see long spells of sunshine and highs of 9C, but with the wind chill it will feel more like 5C.

Between Tuesday and Friday there will be more in the way of cloud but with temperatures of around 10C or 11C.

However next weekend could see things turn more unsettled.

The Met Office's long range forecast says: "As we move towards the weekend we are likely to see the transition to milder weather continuing as the Atlantic dominates the weather pattern in the North.

"The North and West are more likely to see outbreaks of rain and cloudier conditions, whereas South and Eastern areas are more likely to remain clear and dry with a greater chance of some sunshine; but with an additional risk of overnight frost and fog.

"As we move through the weekend this Atlantic influence will be more apparent as frontal systems spread from the West; bringing widespread rain and stronger winds.

"Local gales are possible in exposed Western fringes, with lighter winds further South and East. Rain will eventually spread to all areas, but with this daytime temperatures will return to average."
