AS we count down the days to King Charles’ coronation, the Daily Echo look back at a very special visit to Bournemouth
The first ever Royal Family visit to a trade union conference ended with a standing ovation when the heir to the throne championed the "ordinary British bloke".
Forty years ago Prince Charles came to Bournemouth to attend the Iron and Steel Confederation conference.
During the meeting, the Prince praised the everyday worker for his outstanding performance.
“If we really tried, we could knock the stuffing out of all our competitors from here to next Christmas,” he said.

“We have the experience and the stamina but we need to understand each other better on both sides of industry.”
Prince Charles wore a beaming smile as he arrived by helicopter on June 20, 1979, and at 10am disembarked from the aircraft in a specially cordoned-off section of King's Park.
As a matter of security, the exact landing spot of the Prince had been kept secret. However, when the Prince's arrival was announced, the King’s Park First and Junior Schools asked and were given permission to welcome him.
Approximately 400 people waved a final farewell to the Prince before he was whisked away in his Wessex helicopter just after 1pm.
