As the 18 teams got ready to scramble - in came the eggs. flour and water!

But they weren't whipping up a culinary delight, they were taking part in Wimborne Rugby Club's ten-mile sponsored pram race on August 20, 1983.

There were a few ordinary prams as well as a rickshaw, as well as beds and armchairs on wheels.

The course took in a number of out-of-town pubs where competitors were able to make a pit stop.

A newspaper report from the time read:
“The first team home was fielded by the rugby club and led by David Oliver.
“Their time was an hour and 34 minutes. The Dorset Soldier’s side from Corfe Mullen came second in 1 hour 52 minutes,
“Sue Hordle led the winning ladies' team which finished in 2 hours 22 minutes.
“Best turned out award went to the rickshaw entered by John Williams and Bob Doakes.
“The fun award went to Brian Maidment’s side.”
