Grooves on the Green mini-festival, Poole, in 2012

The community festival, held in Ashley Cross, Poole, is organized by a team of volunteers and funded by ticket sales, sponsorship, and donations.

The festival was founded by Jan Crump, who wanted to create an event that would bring the community together.

The first event featured a variety of local bands and musicians and has since grown in size and popularity, now attracting people from all over Dorset.

Grooves on the Green is a family-friendly event and features a variety of activities for all ages, including live music, children's entertainment, food stalls, a beer tent and more.

These pictures were taken during a special year for the event - 2012 - the first time they charged an entrance fee.

Organisers said the Borough of Poole insisted security and health and safety were improved as a license requirement

Jan told the Echo at the time: “The only way we could continue with this event was to put up the fence and have tickets. A lot of people see this as a fantastic move, as now the environment is a lot more controlled.”

Despite some online negative comments regarding the new charge before the event, thousands of revellers packed out Ashley Cross as the sunshine made a guest appearance.

Acts such as Hazey and the J’s, Brave Mariner and Jouis entertained the crowds in what was the mini-festivals twelfth year.

And now, for Grooves on the Green’s 23rd anniversary,  the festival will be held on July 15-16, 2023, at Ashley Cross Green. 

The line-up for the festival includes Pronghorn, Volatile Agents, Black Water County and more.

Grooves on the Green is a popular event that has become a fixture in the Ashley Cross community. The festival is a great way to enjoy live music, food, and family fun.
