A POPULAR Boscombe theatre has announced 'with heavy hearts' that it will draw its curtains for the final time.

The Black Cherry Theatre and Comedy Club has announced it will shut its doors this June as a fixed venue.

Opened in October 2021, the company has been keen to state that, while it will no longer have a fixed abode, it will continue to work in the area at events such as Southbourne for Father's Day and Boscombe Carnival.

A spokesperson for The Black Cherry said: "With heavy hearts, but also an immense sense of pride in our achievements, we're announcing the closure of the Black Cherry as a fixed venue at the end of June.

"Since opening our doors in October 2021, we've had the joy of hosting more than 60 stand-up comedy nights, showcasing the talents of hundreds of incredible comedians, not to mention many improv, theatre, cabaret and private events.

"We've supported our community via classes working alongside local artists, theatre groups, academic institutions and more. We are so proud of all we've achieved with such a small multitasking team.

"While we're closing this chapter, the story of the Black Cherry as an events company is far from over. Thanks to every one of you - our staff, our audiences, fellow businesses in the precinct and all our collaborators. Your support has meant the world. We look forward to continuing our journey together, one project at a time."

The theatre has stated all events on its website will go ahead and its café will be open Wednesday to Friday with a full menu on Saturdays until it finally shuts.
