KEITH BENHAM

BENHAM Keith Thomas 18th Dec 1931 to 20th Feb 2020 In childhood, his father served with the Admiralty and so the family moved frequently; from Chatham, Kent to Simonstown in South Africa, Plymouth during World War 2, Gibraltar, Rosyth and then finally to Holton Heath. He trained as an apprentice gun fitter at Rosyth Dockyard and then was called up for National Service with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. On demobilisation, he travelled again to South Africa, in service with the Admiralty. He resigned from service on recall to England so that he could explore the country further. He subsequently worked in high rise construction, diamond mining and Gold prospecting. Whilst still in South Africa and on a blind date, he met his beloved wife Gloria they were to be married for 55 years. Returning to England, they settled soon after in Sandford to raise their family. Keith worked at Poole's Power Station until it was closed in the early 1990's. Much loved brother to June, brother-in-law to Valerie, Hugh, Hazel and Rosemary, father to Ian, Janet, Duncan, Victoria, Antonina and Russel, Grandfather to Robert, Samuel, Joseph, Helenna, Katherine, Mateo, Naomi and Nikita. He passed away peacefully with his family around him at Dorset County Hospital following a short illness.
