LASERS, pyrotechnics and fireworks are set to light up the skies when the BSO Classical Extravaganza comes to Meyrick Park on Friday.

The concert will be the second event to take place as part of the three-day Proms in the Park spectacular and will see some of the most popular and recognisable pieces of classical music brought to life accompanied by dazzling effects.

Led by Victor Aviat, the orchestra will perform a programme featuring Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Waltz, Sibelius’ Finlandia, Shostakovich’s Festival Overture, Ravel’s Balero and legendary cinema favourites courtesy of Williams, Zimmer and Bernstein.

Appointed in 2016, it will be Victor’s final performance with the BSO as Leverhulme young conductor in association. He will be succeeded by Marta Gardolińska who will start her new role in September.

The Classical Extravaganza will be packed full of memorable tunes including Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, which will be accompanied by a choreographed display of fireworks and pyrotechnics, and Tchaikovsky’s explosive 1812 Overture – complete with replica cannons.

Gates will open at 6pm on Friday for picnics ahead of the concert at 8pm.

Tickets cost £29 or £32 on the day with concessions available. To book call 01202 669925.
