MAJOR plans to take Bournemouth’s entertainment scene “to the next level” are underway following the collaboration of two of the town’s key hotspots.

For the team behind award-winning Halo Nightclub have just purchased Canvas Loft Bar in The Triangle.

Ty Temel, founder and co-owner of Halo said the venue is a natural fit for Halo’s development plans.

“We’ve been looking to extend our portfolio and cover a different demographic for a while but had no joy in finding a venue,” he told Leisure Live.

“Canvas is an established venue/brand that already ticked many boxes and with James doing such a good job of it, we decided to approach him and see if we could team up and bring our strengths and booking power to it to better the offering further. Why wouldn’t we?

“We saw a venue that has been built with love, with a perfect ethos of good time parties for an (ahem) slightly older demographic than Halo.”

Ty added that there is no desire to change any of the fundamental elements that already make Canvas a successful venture, but in terms of bookings he added: “There are some very exciting plans in place that will take the venue and town to the next level, which will be revealed in due course.”

Halo, an established hotspot in the town which celebrated its fifth birthday in 2018, is known for its high profile guest DJs such as Idris Elba, as well as personal appearances by popular TV stars.

(It was also the venue where Bournemouth players celebrated promotion to the Premier League in 2014).

Canvas, just three years old owned by James Maidment, has grown as a popular live music venue in Poole Hill.

Over the years it has built up a loyal customer base and has attracted performances from international music acts such as James Morrison.

James Maidment from Canvas, who will stay on as a business partner, said he is excited about getting an experienced team on board to aid future plans.

He said: “I have watched Ty and his team grow their existing business over the last five years and admired the total professionalism put into every aspect of their operation.

“This month marks the third birthday of Canvas, we’ve achieved a lot in that time and I couldn’t think of a better operator to come on board and push Canvas forward into the next three years. There’s a huge amount going on behind the scenes so watch this space”.

To celebrate the new joint venture there will also be an invitation only ‘relaunch’ of Canvas on Saturday, November 10.
