BOOMTOWN is an otherworldly and impressive festival experience, writes Ben Ricci. It arrests the senses and doesn’t disappoint. In my mind, it’s the number one festival of the summertime.

Only an hour’s drive from Bournemouth, Boomtown takes place between Wednesday, August 7 and Sunday August 11 at the Matterley Estate near Winchester.

Boomtown is famous for its world class production. Its scale, special effects, pyrotechnics and lighting is mesmerising. Like being on the set of Bladerunner. It’s mighty. Jaw-droppingly good.

But most interesting of all, is this year’s line-up of live acts, DJs and bands. There are hundreds of acts across over 80 genres appearing to suit every taste under the sun. From drum and bass, jungle and reggae to psy-trance, rap, metal, punk, acoustic, techno, nu-disco and indy-electronica.

Headliners include Ms Lauryn Hill, Prophets of Rage, The Streets, and the incredible Groove Armada. Alongside Chronixx, Chase and Status, Salt N Pepa, UB40, Carl Cox, Bugged Out, Elrol Alkan, Kenny Dope, Nicky Blackmarket, Ragga Twins and the sensational party crew, Bangface.

Plus, Boomtown’s famous experiential actors add a certain something special that make this festival extra super deluxe.

Boomtown is packed with vim and full of wonder. It’s a magical mystery tour of musical mayhem that surprises and delights in every possible way.

Get your tickets quick though. 20,000 tickets were the day they went on release back in November last year. Standard tickets start at £234, with teen tickets £176 and under 12’s are free. See boomtownfair.co.uk.
