IT’S time to dust off those cowboy boots, don some spurs and dig out a ten gallon hat for a sing-a-long to family film favourite Calamity Jane which will be screened at the Regent in Christchurch on Friday, July 19 at 8pm.
The sing-a-long version is a celebration of Doris Day, who passed away earlier this year on May 13 at 97.
Theatre goers are invited to come along in fancy dress on the night for a chance to win a prize for the best dressed film fan.
A theatre spokesman said: “The show boasts some spirited dance sequences and a magnificent score that includes Windy City, Deadwood Stage, Black Hills of Dakota and Doris Day’s beautiful worldwide number one hit, Secret Love. The words for each of these classic songs will be up on the screen so there will be no excuses for not joining in!”
There will also be a special Calamity Jane Sing-a-Long Line Dance Class before the film screening. Thirty line dancers will have the chance to join a special hour long Calamity Jane Line Dance Class at 6.30pm in the Regent Studio. Places are strictly limited to just 30 line dancers, so advance booking is recommended (see below).
The line dance class will be held by Terry Dancey, who teaches the Christchurch U3A Line Dance classes in Tuckton. Terry will be teaching the basics in the Calamity Jane inspired line dance, Whip Crack Away together with the steps for Settin’ the Woods on Fire. Film tickets are £5, combined tickets for both the film and dance class are £10.
