SYNTH pop band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are continuing their 40th anniversary with a UK tour which visits Bournemouth Pavilion on Tuesday, November 19.

The band formed in the late 70s and were a regular feature of the charts throughout the 80s and into the early 90s with hits including Enola Gay, Souvenir, Joan of Arc, Sailing on the Seven Seas and Pandora’s Box. They also appeared on the soundtrack of classic 80s movie Pretty in Pink during the prom scene.

But in 1989 one of the key founder members Paul Humphries, left. Fellow founder member Andy McCluskey continued to front the band and enjoyed further success with the new line-up.

He took a break from the band in the early 90s, but in 1996 returned to the group with new material.

Since then the band is enjoying an impressive revival, with a digitally remastered version of their hit 1981 album Architecture and Morality recently released.

The tour is part of another exciting instalment of the band’s 40th anniversary celebrations which first saw the reissue of their first four classic albums on 180g vinyl, mastered at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road and housed in their original iconic die cut sleeves designed by the legendary Peter Saville.

“Electronic music is our language,” Andy McCluskey says. “It’s how we talk.”

“We’re at our best when we’re in a room together, working,” Paul Humphreys adds. “That’s when the sparks and ideas happen. It’s the same now as it ever was.”

They are also set to release a definitive singles collection later this year
