WALK RIGHT BACK
THE music of the Everly Brothers is as popular today as it was 60 years ago as the Weymouth audience demonstrated in this tribute show that was full of energy and surprises.
A dramatised account of the brothers’ early lives set the scene for what was to be a superb evening of popular music with things getting off to a good start in rural Kentucky where the brothers grew up, their parents hosting a regular country music radio programme.
Their first hit, Bye, Bye, Love changed everything and the rest is pop history with the duo’s unique harmonies giving a fresh look to country and rock music that influenced singers worldwide.
In this production, a talented five piece group accompanied the brothers, all of them playing a variety of roles throughout the evening as they kept the story bouncing along with news and background film footage of the time adding to the picture.
Hits such as Dream, Dream, Let it be Me and Claudette were performed with style and enthusiasm and the audience were treated to surprise appearances by Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, both friends of the brothers who showed us what they could do.
Brothers Luke and Aaron Wilson normally play the leading roles in the show but Aaron was unable to perform due to illness and he was replaced by Ollie Gray who gave a particularly fine performance as Don Everly at short notice.
The national tour continues until mid June but the Everly Brothers’ fans are sure of another Dorset visit coming their way soon.
