HE’S just been in Bournemouth performing with popular 70s band Squeeze which he co-founded with Glenn Tilbrook.

Now Chris Difford is heading back to town next week with his show Christmas Shopping, as part of an end of year UK tour.

“Whilst Squeeze has been very much a part of my life for over 45 years, what this tour allows is a chance to step forward and allow me to get a bit closer to others and share my life on the road and the songs that people have enjoyed for generations,” he explained.

“I toured this at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and was well received. What I am doing at the end of 2019 is taking this on a 14 date tour. It starts in Bedford and then ends closer to home in Sussex just before the Christmas celebrations.”

Squeeze played at the Bournemouth Pavilion just a few weeks ago. But Chris revealed that he has another connection to the town.

“I have a strong relationship with the team from Providence Projects, a leading UK drug and rehabilitation centre. It is a great place with many friends who have supported me over the years.”

Joining Chris for his Shelley Theatre date on December 5 will be Mark ‘Boo’ Hewerdine, lead singer and songwriter from 80s group The Bible.

Chris said it will mark the end of another busy year - but he shows no sign of slowing down just yet: “As we look into 2020, we have more gigs lined up, a US tour and we just keep going. However, what I look forward to with these more intimate shows is the conversation and interaction that happens.

“I know that Shelley Theatre is well known for its intimacy between the performer and audience, which is why it’s an evening I am looking forward to. I’ll always encourage people to interact. Whilst there is a flow for the show and people to sit back and enjoy, if there are moments when we all feel a part of something, then it makes a special occasion. I look forward to spending some more time in a town that I always enjoy visiting.”
