TWO lifeboats were launched to rescue a man in Wareham reportedly onboard a 21ft rib boat which had caught fire on Tuesday evening.

Poole inshore lifeboat visited the entrance of the Wareham channel off Russell Quay after a call was made to the emergency services at 4pm with reports of the incident on December 16.

The lifeboat volunteers arrived and found that the man had been picked up by a passing vessel, so they check him over and he was then taken ashore by the crew.

Shortly after, the all-weather lifeboat attended the scene and doused the flames from a safe distance, before towing the rib to Town Quay where fire fighters from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were waiting to ensure the boat was no longer burning.

It was then moved on by the inshore lifeboat to Cobbs Quay.
