The third Purbeck Chamber Music Festival takes place at selected venues early next month.

Four main concerts, a children's concert and workshop make up the September festival, whose musical director is celebrated cellist Natalie Clein.

Venues this year include St Edwards Church at Corfe Castle, Kingston's St James Church, Durlston Castle's Fine Foundation Gallery and Lulworth Castle's St Mary's Chapel.

Festival spokesman Charlotte Heath said: "This year's theme 'Bach, Jazz and Inspiration' hints at the unexpected.

"How will the saxophone chime with all the traditional string instruments - bowed and plucked?

"Hear how virtuoso saxophonist Hayden Chisholm weaves colourful threads through the programme, and how he and viola player Gareth Lubbe surprise us with their improvisations."

The festival also includes the harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani and many other world-class musicians.

Charlotte added: "You can be sure Natalie has devised an exciting programme juxtaposing the familiar and well-loved with the new and expected.

"The concerts take place in a range of intimate, historic and splendid Purbeck venues. Do make sure you book your tickets in good time."
