CHERRIES marksman Callum Wilson made a dream England debut by scoring against the United States.

The striker netted with a delicate left-foot volley in the second half as Gareth Southgate's side won 3-0.

Wilson became the first serving Cherries player to start an England match and also the club's first Three Lions goalscorer.

The former Coventry City man led the line at Wembley in a game that served as an international send off to Wayne Rooney.

Wilson had an opportunity to score early on but was unable to make a clean connection from Jesse Lingard's cross in the ninth minute.

Moments later the Cherries forward had strong shouts for a penalty waved away despite there appearing to be contact with the United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Wilson continued to work hard and showed his trademark pace and power to cause problems.

A couple of chances went begging either side of half-time before Wilson steered a good opportunity wide after getting a yard ahead of his marker.

Undeterred he kept testing defenders and capped off his debut with a goal in the 77th minute.

Fabian Delph collected the ball in space down the left and sent in a teasing cross.

Wilson showed speed and strength to hold off his man and calmly tucked the ball beyond Guzan with a neat volley.

The goal was Wilson's last action at Wembley, with Marcus Rashford coming on in his place.

The 26-year-old became only the second serving Cherries player to represent England, after team-mate Lewis Cook featured as a substitute in a friendly against Italy in March.
