A DOG is “lucky to be alive” after falling 100ft from a clifftop at Purbeck.

Dinky, a male Staffordshire Bull Terrier-type dog, was being walked close to Old Harry Rocks at Swanage on Monday when the incident happened.

Miraculously, Dinky managed to avoid hitting any rocks on his way down and was unhurt but left “very cold and shaken”.

Dinky had managed to climb onto some rocks before he was recovered by Swanage’s inshore lifeboat team and reunited with his owners.

Swanage Coastguard also attended.

The RNLI said: “If you are taking your dog for a walk near cliff edges, please remember to keep them on a lead. If they do get into trouble don’t go in after it. Move to a safe place and call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.”
