A POLICE officer was attacked following the discovery of multiple knives and drugs at a property in Swanage.

Following a tip-off from members of the public, police searched a property in Swanage town centre shortly after 10am on Monday.

A Dorset Police spokesperson was unable to state the exact location of the property raided.

After a search of the premises, a number of items, including suspected class A and class B drugs, were seized as well as a number of dangerous weapons, including a machete and two meat cleavers.

As police went to make an arrest, an officer was assaulted. He was not seriously injured.

A 28-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to produce a class B drug and common assault of an emergency worker.

He has since been released under investigation.
