A SOLDIER found dead in remote woodland after going missing from his Bovington home died of hanging, an inquest heard.
Police launched a search after Mr McAvoy's wife received a "concerning text message" from him, Acting Senior Dorset Coroner Brendan Allen was told.
The Bournemouth inquest was told the body of Mr McAvoy, 39, of Wain Road, Bovington, was located in woodland between Lewell and Woodsford, near Dorchester.
His body was found on March 26.
Police have told the coroner there were no suspicious circumstances and no third party involvement.
Following the discovery of Mr McAvoy's body, All Call Signs, a peer-to-peer communication app for veterans and serving military personnel, said on Facebook: "Our entire community's heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. We're sorry we couldn't get to you Robert."
The inquest was adjourned until September 4 to allow for further inquiries to be carried out.
