FIREFIGHTERS tackled a roof blaze at a semi-detached home in Purbeck.

Six fire engines, along with a crew with an aerial platform, worked to put out the fire in New Road, Wool.

It followed a call to the fire service at around 3.40pm on Tuesday. Firefighters had the blaze under control within two hours. The last crews had left the scene by 9.30pm, but one from Poole returned this morning to re-inspect the scene.

Meanwhile, the British Red Cross Emergency Response Team for Dorset supported those affected by the fire, however nobody was reportedly injured. An investigation into the fire is ongoing, the fire service said, although the "severity of the damage means a cause is not yet known".
