THE A351 Wareham Road was closed as firefighters dealt with a blaze involving tyres at a trading estate in Holton Heath.
Crews were called to the scene at 9.06am this morning.
Six fire engines were in attendance, with crews from Poole, Redhill Park, Hamworthy and Westborne.
There are reports of a large plume of smoke.
Police closed the A351 Wareham Road due to the incident, with fire service vehicles in the road.
A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a fire involving some tyres on a trading estate in Wareham Road.
"The fire was extinguished using 40 litres of foam. Crews are currently dampening down."
The A351 was closed between the Bakers Arms roundabout and the Sandford traffic lights due to a fire, causing major traffic problems in the area.
Police advise motorists to use alternative routes via Organford Road at Sandford and the A35.
The road reopened shortly after 11am.
