A YELLOW weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms is in force for Dorset today.

The warning came into force at 4am and is valid until 11pm and covers a huge swathe of the country. 

The Met Office says many areas will see rainfall of between 15mm and 30mm, however some places could see as much as 70mm in less than six hours.

There is flooding on the A35 Upton Bypass between the Bakers Arms and the A350 Blandford Road.

The Mudeford Ferry will only be operating between 10am and 12pm due to the weather. 

Thunder and lightning is also possible along with strong gusty winds.

Travel disruption could also occur along with some flooding. 

Heavy rain is predicted until 9am before it turns lighter.

This afternoon will see sunny intervals with a chance of more light rain from 5pm.

Highs of 19C are expected.
