Residents object to revised plans for four new homes in Wyke Regis

It asks for a different access than a previous scheme, which was also for four homes.

Three objections have already been received in advance of the deadline for comments on December 8.

Planning officials from Dorset Council say the Ryemead Lane site is outside the defined settlement boundary and within the Heritage Coast area, although an agent for the applicant argues that the classification is historic with the site now adjoins a built-up area.

One objector says that no further development should be allowed off the lane: “The area is sited on the Jurassic Coast which is a World Heritage site. It is also sited directly on the Fleet Lagoon, a body of water which is of international importance and supports many rare species… If building begins on this beautiful area of coastline, it would be extremely short sighted in terms of climate change, tourism, future generations and once it is gone it is gone.”

The neighbour also says that the area’s residents have already suffered ‘considerable disruption’ from construction traffic because of the two extended bouts of upgrading work by Wessex Water at the Wyke Sewage Farm adjacent to Martleaves Farm over the past two years.

“The addition of new build construction using Ryemead Lane will further prolong this disruption and change the character of our street and may well adversely affect our property value,” he said.

Another objector said the application should not be allowed because of the effect on local wildlife including great crested newts, badgers, skylarks and hares.

The third objector also has concerns for wildlife and claims if access were allowed it would spoil the peace of the cul-de-sac which has 20 homes, many of which have been there for more than 65 years: “If access to Martleaves Farm were granted via Ryemead Lane this would lead to a massive increase in caravan, camper van and camping traffic using Ryemead Lane to access the farm site which is currently not allowed,” he said.
