A SNOW and ice warning has been issued for East Lancashire by the Met Office for later today.

The warning runs from 9pm today to 11am tomorrow and the Met Office is warning people some roads and railways are likely to be affected, meaning longer journey times.

They also said icy surfaces may make accidents and falls more likely.

The warning covers Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, the Ribble Valley, Pendle and Rossendale.

A Met Office spokesman said: "A spell of rain and hill snow is likely to affect many areas, with skies clearing at times to allow icy surfaces, although these won't affect all places.

"The snow is most likely above 200 metres elevation and probably focused in the north Pennines and into parts of Scotland; here it could affect a few lower lying areas."
