AFTER Christmas, things can feel rather flat in the countdown to the new year.

If you're not quite sure what to do, here are a few ideas for you.

Thursday December 26:

Bournemouth's Christmas Tree Wonderland is open again from 10am. Enjoy a spectacular Christmas tree trail, enchanting illuminations and seasonal family fun. Includes a magical display of more than 100 glittering trees and illuminations and the popular Alpine market. Enjoy live music and entertainment in Bournemouth Square.

Thursday December 26 onwards:

Illuminated Garden at Kingston Lacy reopens on Boxing Day. Wrap up warm and see the house and garden bathed in light with a new illuminated experience transforming the Formal Garden as darkness falls. From 4pm onwards. This event is free to attend but normal property admission applies for non National Trust members. The trail is around a 30-minute walk.

Thursday December 26:

Poole Museum Service, High Street, Poole. 10am until 4pm. Make your own candle decoration to take home and join a free, self-led collage activity inspired by the painting titled, ‘The Queen’s Christmas Tree at Windsor Castle’.

Friday December 27:

Bournemouth Gateway Club, Brassey Road, Winton. Post-Christmas free drop-in session and buffet from 10am.

Friday December 27:

St Peter's church, Hinton Road, Bournemouth. Lunchtime concert featuring MUSK, the Milton Ukulele Strummers Klub, from 1pm until 3pm. Free entry and includes mince pies and coffee.

Friday December 27 onwards:

Winter lights at Corfe Castle resume. Explore the castle grounds by the light of braziers, beacons and contemporary lighting. Share your Christmas wish at the wishing bridge or snuggle up by a log fire with a warming festive treat. Runs from 4.30pm until 7.30pm.

Friday and Saturday December 27 and 28:

Open days at the Bournemouth Natural Science Society and Museum in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. Open from 10am until 4pm with a suggested donation of £3.

Monday December 30:

Durlston Country Park, Swanage. Scavenger hunt to build giant woodland weavings. Event runs from 2pm until 3.30pm. Costs £3 per person. Please book in advance.

Monday December 30:

Holes Bay walk to look for wintering wildfowl and waders. 10.30am until 1.30pm. A festive stroll to view the salt marsh surrounding Holes Bay. The high tide will push the wintering wildfowl and waders, near to the shoreline path. With a visit to the Tea Rooms to finish the day off. Meet at Main car park Upton House. Suggested £2 donation.

Tuesday December 31:

Little Pickles Play Cafe Playroom, Wimborne Road, Moordown. New Year's Eve celebrations from 10am until 2pm with a kids free buffet at midday. Fancy dress welcome and no booking is required. Usual entry prices apply.
