Motorists are being reminded that a major route on Portland will be closed next week for a local shop to be refurbished.

The A354 up through Fortuneswell will be closed as the Co-op store on this road undergoes a £500,000 makeover.

The closure will be in place on Monday and Tuesday, as well as Wednesday, February 5. On each day the closure will be in place from 10am until 3pm.

During this closure, temporary lights will be in place on High Street and the one-way systems on both of these roads will be suspended, allowing cars to come up High Street in intervals.

The Co-op will be undergoing an ambitious renovation, which will make the store run on 100 per cent renewable electricity.

A spokesman for the chain said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to carry out such significant investment in Fortuneswell - the store will have a great new-look and range, and our aim will continue to be to operate at the heart of local life, and create value in our community.

“We would like to thank the community for its patience, and apologise for any inconvenience, during the works. And we look forward to welcoming customers old and new into their new-look Co-op.”
