Police and community speed watch volunteers in north Dorset caught 14 drivers speeding in one day.

Dorset Police's dedicated No Excuses road safety team was assisting community speedwatch schemes across Dorset.

A spokesman for the team said: "Speeding is obviously one of our 'Fatal Five' in relation to reducing road casualties and routinely enforced, however, we are currently supporting the national policing speed campaign which runs until February 2.

"I was out with the team in north Dorset yesterday supporting community speedwatch areas throughout the shift and joined some volunteer spots at Holwell, Iwerne Minster, Charlton Marshall, Melbury Abbas and Corfe Mullen.

"A total of 14 drivers were caught speeding and two drivers didn't have insurance so cars were seized. One driver claiming he'd just bought the car and was only driving a short distance so 'thought he'd be OK.'"
