A WEATHER warning for heavy rain has been issued by the Met Office for Dorset today.

Between 20mm and 30mm of rainfall is expected to fall while as much as 40 to 50mm of rainfall could be recorded over high ground.

The yellow alert came into force at 3am this morning and is valid until 12noon today.

The Met Office says the heavy rain may cause some surface water flooding and affect travel this morning.

It warns bus and train services will probably be affected with potential for spray and flooding on the roads to make journey times longer.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “An area of rain will move north-eastwards through Wednesday morning, becoming heavy at times across more southern parts of Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. 20-30 mm will fall widely with as much as 40-50 mm over high ground, this mostly falling within 6 hours.”

According to the Met Office forecast, heavy rain is expected until 2pm today with further showers at 5pm and 11pm

Thursday will be sunny with highs of 20C and Friday will see sunshine and showers.

The weekend will be dry with sunny intervals.
