AS STORM Alex battered the south coast on Friday it appeared Swanage was dealt the brunt of the weather damage.

Strong winds and persistent bouts of rain hit the Purbeck town throughout the early hours and morning.

Coastguard teams were out attempting to clear up debris and ensure the seaside spots remained safe.

With waves crashing in, coupled with high tide, some of the wooden beach huts along the coast failed to withstand the storm.

People were out in force to begin a clear up as the storm eased in the afternoon, although with further inclement weather coming overnight on Friday and throughout Saturday it likely that they will have to repeat these efforts.

Despite weather warnings being in place and water levels breaching sea defences, some residents still went to the seafront to get a closer look at the storm.

Waves continued to sweep in as the day came to an end, however, the sun did eventually manage to break through the clouds.
