CRIMINALS buying old cars for cash are using them to commit offences without registering the new owner.

Police in Purbeck have now warned the public about so-called scrap dealers who turn up at your home and offer you cash for an old vehicle.

And last night they seized a vehicle involved in a rural burglary as part of their investigations.

A spokesman for Purbeck police said: "Had someone turn up to your house and tell you they are interested in buying your car? Seem odd or a bit random? They may say they are scrap dealers looking for old cars and can pay you cash.

"What they won’t tell you is that they won’t register it in their name and will use it in crime.

"The one we are seizing has had just that happen. It was used in a rural burglary. If it feels suspicious, report it."
