The removal of the Weymouth Quay Branchline is controversial - but it is a landmark moment in our town's history.

You can be part of history in the making by sending a snap to our online gallery.

Tom Woodland, age 15, ventured out on the evening of Tuesday September 6 and snapped some of the first pieces of track being taken up over the B3155.

Tom said: "This is a key moment in the history of Weymouth and I believe that this should be documented through pictures."

The project got underway on Monday morning (October 5) starting at the junction of Commercial Road and King Street.

King Street was eerily quiet as it was closed at the junction so works could go ahead safely.

Weymouth resident Alan Bentley took these dramatic shots.

Dorset Council said it is investigating ways to preserve the history of the lines as the removal has proved highly controversial - many residents are unhappy that the track is being removed.

Others say it is a necessary measure as the lines pose a safety hazard and have caused several serious accidents over the years.
