BCP COUNCIL’S operations manager for parks and environment has won a Green Flag award for his own garden.

Judges of the national competition awarded Rob Potter first place in the Best Private Garden section and also the accolade of Best In Show for his spectacular plot in Southbourne.

Rob began his gardening career as an apprentice for the Bournemouth Parks Department 41 years ago and he has been a Green Flag judge for more than ten years.

He has also supported Bournemouth in Bloom for many years with community growth projects including the various themed arrangements at the boat garden in Southbourne, the giant deckchair garden in Durley Chine Road and, recently, the refurbishment of Skerryvore, the site of Robert Louis Stevenson’s house in Alumhurst Road.

Rev Chris Colledge, Chairman of Bournemouth In Bloom, said: “Rob has contributed so much over 41 years to the horticultural excellence of Bournemouth.

“His knowledge and assistance to Bournemouth in Bloom has been tremendous and something that has enabled many community growth projects to happen.

“The town is grateful for all of his dedication and hard work over such a long period of time and the green heritage he has enabled.

“Rob will be leaving his post at BCP Council at the end of the year and we all hope he will continue to support our projects at Bournemouth In Bloom.”
