PART of a Bournemouth town centre college campus has undergone a deep clean in response to confirmed coronavirus cases among the institution's community.

Since welcoming students back last month, Bournemouth & Poole College has had a "small number" of positive Covid-19 cases.

Yesterday the college said an area of its Lansdowne campus had been closed temporarily to allow a deep clean to take place.

This had been arranged to ensure the establishment maintains its 'high COVID standards'.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth & Poole College said: “Since the beginning of term, we have had a small number of confirmed cases of COVID-19.

"Our strict processes have meant that we have been able to identify affected student bubbles and trace students and staff who have been in close contact with the individuals, and they have self-isolated or are self-isolating as a precaution.

“The college remains open and all students should continue to attend if they are well and have not been instructed to self-isolate."

As reported, Bournemouth University has also had a "small number" of confirmed Covid-19 cases since the start of the academic year.

Meanwhile, many schools across the conurbation have had pupils self-isolating due to positive tests and close contacts.

The Bournemouth & Poole College spokesperson said additional measures and procedures to ensure the safety of students, staff and the wider community had been introduced since reopening in September.

“These include an enhanced cleaning schedule, the wearing of face coverings, regular hand sanitising stations and regular reminders to our students and staff about the importance of following social distancing guidelines," the spokesperson said.

“We recognise that this is an evolving situation and official advice changes regularly. As such, we are regularly reviewing our policies and closely monitoring the advice from the Department of Education and Public Health England.”
