The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Dorset jumped by 84 in 24-hours, according to the latest official figures.

There were 24 new cases in the Dorset Council area and 60 in the Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole (BCP) Council area.

Public Health England figures show that 1,017 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday in the Dorset Council area and 1,829 people in the BCP area.

The rate of infection in Dorset now stands at 269 cases per 100,000 people and 463 in the BCP area, far lower than the England average of 935.

The infection rate published daily by Public Health England is the total rate of all people who have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

The latest weekly rate for the Dorset Council area, for the seven days up to October 8, is 37.3 per 100,000 and 101.2 for the BCP area.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 42,009 over the period, to 617,688.

Dorset's cases were among the 23,398 recorded across the South West, a figure which rose by 1,275 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
