TALBOT Heath welcomed a special guest to host a whole school assembly last week.

Comedian, actor, writer, charity fundraiser and political activist Eddie Izzard visited the school to present an exclusive charity performance of his new show based on Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.

He was accompanied by his tour manager, and former Talbot Heath pupil Sarah Johnson, to jointly present the Friday morning assembly - which was streamed live on Zoom - by interviewing one another and taking questions from pupils across the school.

The pair discussed former school experiences, marathon running, politics and LGBT issues.

Eddie’s key messages to students and teachers alike were promoting unity, the need for determination to succeed, and to treat others as you yourself would wish to be treated.

Later in the day, socially-distanced students and teachers enjoyed Eddie's afternoon solo performance, which showcased his skills as a stand-up comedian and story-teller.

Eddie and Sarah also met with A-Level Theatre Studies students to offer advice about acting as a career and the world of show business.

Head of Senior School, Mrs Holloway said: "It was a truly wonderful event that exceeded all of our expectations. A huge thank you to Eddie and Sarah for giving their time so generously and helping to support our local charities at a time when they need it most."

All the profits from the show will go to the Women’s Refuge and the YMCA in Bournemouth.
