WEYMOUTH and Portland Lions Club is asking for donations to fill the financial hole left by the cancelled Beach Motocross event.

The annual event would have happened over the weekend but had to be cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Whilst we are disappointed we can't bring you the spills and thrills 20,000 people would come to see at Weymouth Beach we're sure you understand this is in the best interest of everyone's health and safety.

"This event normally raises between £3,000 and £5,000 for Weymouth and Portland Lions Club for local charities and good causes including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, so this will be a wider loss to the community.

"Please consider making a donation to Weymouth and Portland Lions so we can continue to support those worthy causes and charities who would normally benefit from funds raised at this event."

Head to the group's Facebook page to make a donation.
