IT’S William and Emily here this week writing about being morning or evening people.

We’ve just discovered we both had a lie in this morning, but William was still up earlier than I was! I, Emily, don’t like getting up too early as I love my sleep and staying in bed a long time.

The only times I’m up early is if I have to go somewhere, like on holiday. It does seem a shame to stay in bed while the sun is up but I am so grumpy early on! I’m glad my working hours are over lunchtime as I wouldn’t be much fun working too early.

I, William am definitely a morning person. I like getting up early and getting on with the day. I don’t like lying in late as it feels I’m wasting the day! I get up with the sun, get my work boots on ready to go to work, which I really enjoy. Work in the gardens starts at 8am and my other volunteer job at 10am. I love working early and like to get to bed by 10.30pm.

We are lucky to have jobs which fit around us. We know we could work earlier or later if we had to, but much prefer working hours when we are at our best. It must be hard working night shifts if you are a morning person. We wonder if you worked nights long enough you become a night person, even if you are naturally a morning person?

We’d love to see work places help people to work at their best times where that’s possible. Surely they would get the most out of people if they are working when they are most alert, instead of just following traditional working times.
