A PUPIL at Twynham School has tested positive for coronavirus.

In a letter sent to parents, headteacher Jy Taylor said the student, who is in a Year 13 class bubble at the Christchurch site, had not attended school since October 14.

All close contacts have been identified and have been informed they need to isolate, the school said.

Mr Taylor's letter said: “I am writing to advise you that we have been informed of a single confirmed case of Covid-19 in one of our students in a Year 13 class bubble. The affected student has not attended school since 14th October and all close contacts who are required to isolate have been informed.

“We have engaged with Public Health England and Public Health Dorset and we are working closely with them, including following their procedures and advice to identify specific risks and manage this situation. We will continue to monitor and review this situation.

“Due to the extensive measures that we have already implemented upon re-opening the school, including the use of specific seating plans and the ‘bubbling’ of year groups, the only additional action required is for a small number of students being required to self-isolate for 14 days from last contact with the positive case as a precaution as advised by the Test and Trace Service."

Mr Taylor added: “We have seen a significant increase in cases locally as well as in schools and we will continue to implement robust measures to reduce the risk of transmission.

“We are grateful for your support at this challenging time, as we work together as a community to remain vigilant and adhere to the recommended guidance.”
