ALMOST 200 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Dorset, latest figures show.

Data released by the government shows that 197 people tested positive across the county in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Friday, October 23. 

The BCP Council area recorded 120 of these cases, meaning 2,876 people have tested positive in the conurbation since the start of the pandemic.

In the seven days leading up to October 19, the rolling rate of infections in the BCP Council area was 154.8 per 100,000 people.

In the Dorset Council area, 77 people tested positive in the past 24 hours, meaning there has been 1,526 cases since the start of the pandemic.

The rolling rate stood at 79.8 per 100,000 of the population.

Elsewhere, in the New Forest, 37 people tested positive, with a total of 955 since the start of the pandemic and a rolling seven-day rate of 75.5 per 100,000.
