AT the September Town Council meeting, council agreed to fund the re-opening the toilets in the indoor Market Hall.

The toilets have been closed for some time by Ulverston Community Enterprises, because of the cost of cleaning them.

The town council has stepped in and will be contracting with cleaners to clean the market hall toilets once a day.

This will continue until March 31 2021 when it is hoped that UCE may be able to take this back on.

Town Mayor Cllr Sharon Webster said. “It’s really important to encourage people to shop in to town with the knowledge that public toilets are open.

"The town council funds the public toilets in the Gill, and we have decided to pay for the re-opening of the toilets in the Market Hall as well.

"The gill toilets will be undergoing refurbishment at the beginning of next year and will be closed for one week, so his also ensures that there is a facility for the community in the town during this time”

It is hoped that this will encourage more people to come into the centre and shop in the market place.
