A GROUP of people have rallied together to help a dolphin at Canford Cliffs.
Around five people braved the cold weather to help the beached dolphin, and the coastguard was also called.
Julie Carey, passing by, said: “When I got there, there was already a big group of people on the beach and five men in the sea trying to rescue it.
“It was beached, and they tried to get it into the water but it kept swimming back. I think it was really tired.
“I was probably there about 15 minutes, there was a big group of people there so I’m guessing it was there about half an hour.”
Ms Carey said the dolphin didn’t look injured.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “At 12.52pm today, HM Coastguard received a report of a dolphin in shallows waters at Canford Cliffs, between Shore Road and Branksome Chine.
“Poole and Southbourne Coastguard Rescue Teams have been tasked to assist as well as Poole RNLI ILB to this ongoing incident
“The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) have been advised and requested to assist.”
The dolphin has now swam away.
