HEAVY rain is set to sweep across Dorset later this week, the Met Office has warned.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Dorset which will be in force from 12am on Friday and 3am on Saturday.

The Met Office said as much as 20 to 30mm of rainfall could be seen during that time with some disruption likely.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Outbreaks of rain are likely to spread across these areas later Thursday, with further spells of at times heavy rain then following through Friday, before clearing to the east early Saturday.

"Many areas are expected to see 20-30 mm, with Dartmoor and higher ground of south Wales likely to see some 50-60 mm. After wet weather on preceding days, some flooding is likely, this in turn affecting transport and travel.

In terms of what to expect , the Met Office says:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely
