COASTGUARD and lifeboat teams spent several hours on Christmas Day carrying out searches after a red flare had been seen near Wareham channel.

Poole Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to the channel from Rockley Park View Point at 5.30pm, while RNLI Poole Lifeboat crew looked from Arne to Wareham River.

Due to tidal conditions, the lifeboat was unable to go up the entrance of Wareham River, so they were tasked to conduct a search back to Rockley and along to Hamworthy Park.

The coastguard team was sent to Swineham farm in Wareham to search the rivers Frome and Piddle, with such a large area, the Kimmeridge Coastguard Teams were requested.

Both rivers were searched as much as possible, while another team used a coastguard vehicle to search Best Wall, Shipstal Point and Ridge Wharf.

After four hours and no sighting of anyone in trouble, all teams stood down.
