SOME 38 lambs have been reported stolen from a field in the Wareham area, police say.

The lambs were taken between October 19 and November 9, last year, but were only reported to Dorset Police on Saturday, February 13.

They were taken from a field in East Stoke.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "It is not known how access was gained to the field."

Livestock theft is one of the costliest crimes for the farming industry.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "If you have any information regarding this please contact Dorset Police."

Sheep rustling grew significantly during the first coronavirus lockdown across the UK.

In April, 2020, there was a near 15 per cent rise in livestock theft across the country.
